During Copenhagen Fashion Week ‘The World’s Greatest Catwalk’ will take place on the pedestrian street in the centre of Copenhagen, Strøget. The street will be transformed into one long runway where 220 models will walk 1 mile (1.609 km) and beat the world record for the longest catwalk ever.
We will of cause be there since the catwalk runs right along our office. It’s this Saturday 14th of August at 15.00.

Even though Fredrika just graduated from the Danish School of Design – the shoe line has already been patented and put into production. Congrats from Johannes Torpe Studios.

After noticing Marco Brambilla’s “Civilization” video installation in the elevators at The Standard New York Hotel in 2009, Kanye not only wrote about it on his blog, he commissioned the experimental filmmaker to collaborate on the video for “Power,” his new single. The result is this video collage extreme!. The whole thing is in fact inspired by Michelangelo’s frescos in the Sistine Chapel, the piece depicts a faux historical moment – an empire on the brink of collapse from its own excess, decadence and corruption. All the little layered collage pieces move in extreme slow motion forming an abstract and visually rich environment.
You can read an exclusive interview with Marco Brambilla on Coolhunting here.

We are working in onyx. As you can see on the picture, this is not our work, but we are SO excited to start this up!
Onyx is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color (save some shades, such as purple or blue). Commonly, specimens of onyx available contain bands of colors of white, tan, and brown. (source: Wikipedia)

Le Creative Sweatshop has done amazing paperwork (and not the boring bureaucratic kind!) for fashion shoots, packaging, product and interior design. At Johannes Torpe Studios we’re stunned and inspired by their creations.

Over the last fifteen years or so there has been a steadily increasing desire for design to prove its commercial value, to demonstrate to clients that their investment is tangibly worth it.

The British Design Council has written a very interesting article that we highly recommend reading as it effects all parts of the design business.

‘Practicing designers often get caught in the trap of thinking that design is the solution. What they need to realize is that, to a businessperson, design is a solution. Looking at the objectives sought, such as “increased revenue,” it’s clear that there are many approaches to achieve that goal, and design is just one of them,’ writes Peter Merholz, president and a founding partner at experience design consultancy Adaptive Path.

Graphic/Communication designers have a unique ability to communicate visually, however their talent is often restrained by client needs. Positive posters give graphic designers an outlet to create freely, and to use their skills to inspire, challenge and make a positive difference in a non-commercial way. Join the competition here. The picture shows a small segment of last years contributions.

(BUT IT STILL ROCKS!)

Press clip from ‘Rum’.

The interior magazine ‘Rum’ offers a sneak-peak into our office, our world. The office on Skoubogade, Copenhagen, is often inhabited by quirky characters and curious items – not to mention the very diverse sound setting. Situated right on Copenhagen’s central pedestrian street, we listen to everything from marching bands and Hare Krishna – to eleven-year-old castrates singing Italian opera – that’s the sound of inner Copenhagen city life. Hey, and not to mention Rune RK’s studio, that regularly throws in a beat or two of the next club hit in the making.

It might seem that it really is a disco all the time, but that’s not the case. It’s in fact a serious business that’s currently skyrocketing, planning an office launch in China later this summer. We’ll keep you posted!

The couch in the picture is our famed ‘Mormor’ couch, the low flintstone table in front of it was originally developed for the Paris-Texas high-end fashion store. The white table to the right is called Coupé and is produced by Moroso.
