Goatskin meets offcuts from furniture production in ergonomically shaped pumps by Liza Fredrika Åslund for the first collection of fashion-art from WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU®.
Even though Fredrika just graduated from the Danish School of Design – the shoe line has already been patented and put into production. Congrats from Johannes Torpe Studios.

We are working in onyx. As you can see on the picture, this is not our work, but we are SO excited to start this up!
Onyx is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color (save some shades, such as purple or blue). Commonly, specimens of onyx available contain bands of colors of white, tan, and brown. (source: Wikipedia)

Le Creative Sweatshop has done amazing paperwork (and not the boring bureaucratic kind!) for fashion shoots, packaging, product and interior design. At Johannes Torpe Studios we’re stunned and inspired by their creations.

Graphic/Communication designers have a unique ability to communicate visually, however their talent is often restrained by client needs. Positive posters give graphic designers an outlet to create freely, and to use their skills to inspire, challenge and make a positive difference in a non-commercial way. Join the competition here. The picture shows a small segment of last years contributions.

Space Enablers featured on Lifeweek’s Good’s Good pages.

THE SPACE ENABLERS
The Space Enablers is a product family that includes Slide, Drift and Soft Shelter developed by Johannes Torpe for Haworth. The Space Enablers take the traditional office environment into the new Millennium by facilitating new and more flexible ways of working – upgrading and mobilizing the office environment.
SLIDE AND DRIFT
Slide and Drift; are both flexible laptop tables that encourage spontaneous and effective business meetings standing up or sitting down, anywhere, anytime.
SOFT SHELTER
Soft Shelter is enabling a more lounge-like and casual encounter. It’s designed to be an easily configurable solution that can be moved around, shaped and reshaped – facilitating various degrees of privacy and comfort. Its flexibility and its acoustic properties allow you to customize the appropriate atmosphere for any business encounter.
“IF IT FEELS LIKE WORK, YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG”
The Space Enablers ignite energy, creativity and connectivity. In the often so grey and gloomy office environment the Space Enablers will make space flexible and ad bubbly colorful hotspots that entail the very philosophy of Johannes: “If it feels like work, you’re doing it wrong”.
Korean DECO Magazine is featuring SUBU this month…..

For the last two years we have been working with the Danish Flashlight manufacturer Wiseled. Throughout the first two years we designed these four flashlights (Tactical, Adapt, Street and Stealth), which has primarily been sold to the professional markets – forensics, the military, the police etc.
At this point we have just finished the design of next generation flashlights targeted divers. It’s a really cool flashlight that will definitely set a new standard within this area…..
We are looking so much forward for the launch in 3 months time….

There’s a lot of cool features with these lights, like the charging mechanism, the modularity the materials and much more. Check their webpage out here!
And what’s even better, we started working on the next generation of diverlights for the company!!

From Deco Magazine sep. 2008 – NO. 79
Subu Restaurant in Beijing was what really opened our eyes to the Asian part of the world. It allowed us to see how fantastic projects we could actually do there – while working with really nice and professional people.
We are now very focused on the Asian // Chinese markets – and we spend a lot of time out there. Actually Johannes has been there four times already in 2009. It cannot be long before we open a Shanghai based office – anyway it could be really great.
Subu has been a great ride for us – and it still is.
We’ve been featured in more than 100 articles, frontpages etc. over the last year’s time!
To mention a few:

I think it’s fair to say that NASA kicked off the interior and industrial design career of Johannes Torpe. Previous to Nasa Johannes had primarily been focusing on graphic and webdesign. But with Nasa the world saw his talent as a designer. And he completely changed the expression of his holistic focus. Through the interior designs Johannes has been able to create experiences – in crazy and wonderful universes.
Nasa has been going strong for more than 10 years – and is still one of the most popular nightclubs in Copenhagen. It has been appointed numerous awards and been appointed top 10 nightclubs of the world.
A few years ago we gave it a facelift (as it is all white) – and with those minor alterations maybe it can last another 10 years…..

A french online magazine writes about NASA nightclub. To check it out please read here here, if you know your french!??!

In Danish Mormor means grandmother and this sofa is part of a series of furniture with family related names. The larger version is called Farmor (paternal grandmother) and there are chairs named Faetter (Cousin), Tante (Aunt), Faster (Aunt) etc. The idea with the concept is to bring the family back in to the home and in to the living room. Also directly translated Mormor is pronounced and means “more more” in English, Farmor is “far more” and so on…
Mormor won the Danish Design Prize in 2007. But Johannes Torpe doesn’t believe in design prizes. He believe it takes up to much time and money to participate – and that’s not what design is all about… However when the producer HAY CPH told us that we where nominated – and when we won – we were of course both proud and happy……
Check out more at www.Hay.dk
Read the funny article of what this sofa can be used for (in Danish) here.
Check out the article at Boligmagasinet.dk where Johannes Torpe and Rune RK talks about Mormor as well (in Danish)

As part of the concept design for SUBU Restaurant in Beijing this chair was designed. Like all aspects of the SUBU project this chair was designed in the context of SUBU – but with a story to tell elsewhere. There fore we are working with a European furniture producer at this point in the further development of the SUBU Chair.
