Design concept

As an old saying goes, the greatest songs are written by song writers that are either in love or dealing with a broken heart. There is certainly a truth to the story. Johannes Torpe being a music producer and songwriter himself, conceptualized the Precious Chair interpreting the feeling of love into furniture design. This kind of self-expression is seldom translated into contemporary furniture, yet it results in an outcome which surpasses functionality, and permeates the sitting experience with a symbolic touch.

I designed the Precious collection of chairs in a moment of love and happiness, the inspiration really did come from imagining a ring on a finger.
The seat of the chair is sitting on a shiny metal plate translating the same feeling, the connection to another human being translated into contemporary furniture.
— Johannes Torpe

The details of the Precious Chair were conceptualized by the image of a wedding ring on a finger. This design DNA imbues all the meticulously developed details of the chair which result in an overall appearance that naturally reflects the uplifting feeling that provided the inspiration in the first place.

The cross-section was designed as an attempt to slim it down to the lowest possible in order to create a lightweight, elegant product that would defy the laws of physics with its appearance. Inspired by the initial idea, the legs of the chairs and stools were designed in an eminently slender shape, juxtaposed with a chrome-plated or painted steel plate serving as the base of the seat.

The product´s minimalist shape nevertheless is paired with solidity, making it suitable for heavy-duty use, such as in the contract industry.

Hence, the Precious Chair creates an effortless connection and not a contraposition between airy, clear-cut shapes and solidity. Aligned with the refined taste and love for precious materials, the collection incorporates a rich variety of fabrics and finishes curated with a careful attention to detail.
